An Open Letter to Supporters and Listeners of the Writing Community Chat Show

Chris here… I wanted to take this opportunity on Switch Day to thank you for lending us your ears and eyes over the past four years! We’ve loved sharing this journey with each and every one of you. Your support has meant the world to us, and for that, we are truly grateful. Cheers!
We’re excited to announce that we’re moving from YouTube to Substack, and we’re bringing all of our shows along with us. Now, I know this might feel like a bit of a shock if you’ve been enjoying our free content over the years, so I wanted to take a moment to explain our decision.
The reality is that producing the show costs us more than we’re able to earn back—expenses like the website, streaming platform, advertising, editing software, and design programs add up, and we both end up at a loss each month.
While we’d love for YouTube to generate sufficient revenue (unless you’re a Minecraft expert, smashing your house to find secret rooms, or reviewing toys for kids, it’s tough to earn there), our content caters to a niche audience. We’ve always hoped YouTube would allow us to take the Writing Community Chat Show full-time, but that just hasn’t been the case.
We’re passionate about what we do. We love conducting interviews, engaging with our community, and are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved so far (seriously, how many podcasts do you know that have their own beer?). However, in order to continue the show and make it sustainable, we need to evolve.
Substack feels like a natural progression for us. It’s essentially the new hub for writers and readers—a place where we feel right at home. It’s more personal than YouTube. The people there (here) aren’t faceless; they’re real creators pouring their hearts into their work. We’re inspired by the amazing content—poets, artists, journalists, authors, and more all contributing their creative energy. The platform also allows for richer interactions, like discussion rooms and easy content sharing with likeminded people—without being distracted by a random cat video dragging down our viewing figures!
By subscribing, you’ll not only help support the show but also contribute to its growth. We’re committed to reinvesting any subscription fees back into the show to make it better than ever.
